Singer Angie Stone died on Friday in a car crash in Montgomery, Alabama. Stone, who was a pioneering member of the iconic hip-hop trio The Sequence, was married Rodney Stone. Also known as Lil’ Rodney C!, Rodney was a member of the hip-hop group Funky Four Plus One. They got married in early 1980s and welcomed their daughter, Diamond, in 1984. They filed for divorce a few years later. In the 1990s, Stone got into a relationship with neo-soul artist D’Angelo. They welcomed their son, Michael D’Angelo Archer II, in 1998.

Diamond, 41, confirmed the news of her mother’s death, writing on Facebook, “My mommy is gone.”

Veteran promotor Van Silk also confirmed her passing.

In a statement to AllHipHop, he said, “I received a call from her team stating that Angie passed.”

“I thought it was from her kidney dialysis which she was going through, but it was a bad vehicle accident with 9 people in the Sprinter van coming from a show in Alabama heading back to Atlanta. Angie will be missed especially by me because we will either text or call each other in the morning,” he added.

Angie Stone was a member of The Sequence, the first all-female group signed to Sugar Hill Records. The band dropped three albums between 1979 and 1985, including hits like Funk You Up.

Stone released her debut solo album, Black Diamond, in 1999. The album was named after her daughter Diamond.

Stone then ventured into acting, appearing in films like like The Hot Chick (2002) and the Kevin Hart comedy Ride Along (2014).
