For the first time in twenty-two years, two English players took on each other in La Liga, with Bellingham and Greenwood starting for their respective teams.

Out of the two, Greenwood went closest to scoring, but his attempt rang the post.

The final meeting of that kind took place in February 2002 when Real Madrid defeated Las Palmas 7-0, with Steve McManaman starting for Real.

Vinny Samways, meanwhile, was a member of the Las Palmas roster.

Between 1999 and 2003, McManaman won eight trophies with Real Madrid, including two Champions League titles and one La Liga crown.

Regarding Samways, throughout his playing career he played for Las Palmas, Sevilla, and Algeciras in Spain. He was a former Tottenham midfield player.

In 1988, Gary Lineker and Sammy Lee faced off in Spain, with Osasuna winning 1-0 at the Camp Nou.

Thirty-six years ago, Sam Allardyce’s sidekick Lee started for the visitors, while Lineker led the Barcelona line.

The 22-year-old Greenwood is currently on loan from Manchester United to Getafe, where he has contributed four assists and six goals.

In the summer, Bellingham also relocated to Spain, where he became the most expensive British player ever to play at the Bernabeu.

Since then, he has scored 18 goals, 14 of which have come in the league, tying him for the division lead in goals scored.
