Although they have not yet spoken out, a photo of Tom Cruise and Ana de Armas holding hands in Vermont, USA, in late July confirms their relationship. The two also plan to work together in Doug Liman’s upcoming supernatural horror film, Deeper .
For the public, this is not a big surprise because the love rumor has been around since February. What people are more interested in is how long this relationship will last.

Romances that blossom and fade quickly are not uncommon in the entertainment industry. However, in the case of Tom Cruise and Ana de Armas, the obstacles were there before the two began their relationship. The European and American media even used the term “mission impossible” to describe it.
The fact that Ana grew up in a devout Catholic family, while Tom held an important role in Scientology – a sect that made him not hesitate to divorce 3 wives and distance himself from his only biological child.
“Tom Cruise’s relationships were destined to fail. There was a honeymoon period with many overwhelming moments, then reality set in,” Karen de la Carriere, a former senior member of Scientology (who left the sect in 2010) and one of the few people personally trained by founder L. Ron Hubbard, told the Daily Mail .
According to de la Carriere, Cruise’s girlfriends and wives often began their exposure to the cult by taking introductory courses, undergoing psychological evaluations, and eventually being confronted with the church’s bizarre, sci-fi-esque aspects.
Scientologists, guided by Hubbard, believe that humans are immortal spiritual beings (Thetans), possessed by alien souls from a genocide that occurred 75 million years ago, and that they can only be saved through a very expensive “spiritual cleansing” process.
“Scientology is a scam. It’s fine at first, especially if you’re the girlfriend of a superstar like Tom Cruise. But then you get to the higher, more secretive levels and you find out things like you have 400,000 spirits attached to you and you have to spend the next 30 or 40 years removing them. Suddenly, that person is in a world of weirdness. That’s when they start to withdraw. Who wants to be asked to go through five exorcisms to get rid of those spirits? Nobody,” Karen de la Carriere said.
Women run away from Tom Cruise
Mimi Rogers, Tom Cruise’s first wife, was the one who introduced the 1962-born actor to this controversial sect when the two dated in the mid-1980s. However, it was she who took the initiative to leave the Scientology sect and her handsome husband.
His second wife, Nicole Kidman, threw herself into Scientology’s courses and psychological evaluations. She quickly rose to the rank of OT2 (Operation Thetan Level 2) thanks to Tom Cruise’s fame and influence in the cult.
However, the “Australian swan” was said to be so depressed that she decided to withdraw from Scientology and divorce Tom after more than a decade of living together in 2001. She also distanced herself from her two adopted children with the Top Gun actor since then.
Spanish beauty Penélope Cruz and Tom Cruise dated for three years. Although her representative insists she has never joined a cult, the actress has attended some Scientology courses, which she says have been beneficial.
Katie Holmes’s third wife was initially enthusiastic about the cult, even filing a complaint against actress and former Scientologist Leah Remini at the time of their wedding in Italy in 2006. The reason was that Remini had publicly questioned the disappearance of the cult leader’s wife, Shelly Miscavige.
Katie also admitted to starting a number of psychological evaluations and courses while dating Cruise.
Tom Cruise’s three wives all left because they couldn’t stand Scientology.
However, by 2012, Holmes had changed her mind. She filed for divorce and took her daughter Suri (then 6 years old) and left while Tom Cruise was filming in Iceland.
“Katie must have seen what Isabella and Connor [Tom and Nicole’s adopted children] went through in the cult. Children start these courses at around six years old, which is the age Suri was when Katie left Tom. I don’t blame these women. They love him. There’s nothing wrong with wanting to be a part of someone’s life. But Scientology is too hard to bear,” journalist Tony Ortega, who has spent decades investigating Scientology, told the Daily Mail .
On July 31, Ortega revealed on Substack Underground Bunker that he had the opportunity to meet Bruce Hines, who had psychologically evaluated Nicole Kidman, and learned that the Aquaman actress was quickly promoted in the Scientology learning system.
Hines said Cruise and Kidman spent weeks at the cult’s headquarters, known as “Int Base” or “Gold Base,” near Hemet, California. There, they had their own study room with a course supervisor and a vocabulary tutor, and could undergo psychological evaluations multiple times a day, seven days a week, if they wanted.
Ortega and others have long reported that Kidman and Cruise drifted away from the church in the later years of their marriage. However, since their divorce, Scientology’s current leader, David Miscavige, has waged a concerted campaign to bring Cruise back into the fold.
What does Ana de Armas face?
When asked about the problems Ana de Armas faced while dating Tom Cruise, Scientology experts gave mixed opinions.
Musician Geoffrey Levin – who was associated with the sect for more than 50 years before leaving in 2018 – commented that the Cuban beauty must undergo a “re-education” course.
“She’s going to have to basically learn the language of Scientology, too. Otherwise, when she goes to events, it’s going to sound like she’s listening to Greek or something. It’s all about what she wants from the relationship,” Levin said.
Levin worked at the Scientology Celebrity Center when Cruise and Kidman first got married, and it was the first department Nicole encountered when she first learned about Scientology.
“Back then, it was very impressive. It was like a high-end museum. As Tom’s wife, she was treated like a queen. No one else was treated like that. This was before Scientology got into a lot of bad press, so you could tell she had no idea what was behind the curtain… Then the light faded for Kidman and she started to see what had been hidden,” he described.
Levin added that Tom Cruise was always warm, polite and helpful whenever Levin had the opportunity to interact with him. He also remembered Kidman as having a warm and friendly personality.
Ana de Armas’ future with Tom Cruise is unclear.
De la Carriere, however, suggests that Ana may not have had as much trouble as Tom’s exes, as he has shown signs of distancing himself from the cult over the years, although he remains a member.
According to De la Carriere, the actor no longer promotes Scientology at events, nor does he take photos with Miscavige anymore.
“I wonder if that means this new girlfriend is less pressured to be involved with the cult,” she asked.
However, Ortega said Tom remained as close as ever to Miscavige and deeply involved in the church.
“Bruce Hines told me that being Tom Cruise’s girlfriend or wife is an extremely stressful experience. Everyone who knows him well says he has enough energy to power a small city… When he gets into a relationship, he’s very intense about it. But at the same time, he carries all the baggage that comes with Scientology,” the journalist commented.
Scientology, Tom Cruise and Ana de Armas have not responded to the reports.
